Scabie Treatment - Your Choices

Scabies, or the 7 year itch as it is known colloquially, is a really infectious skin problem that is really itchy. It's created by a mite called Sarcoptes scabiei, a very minute and almost invisible parasite with 8 legs, that burrows within one's skin and causes intense allergic itching. It is the female mites which attack us; they're generally 0,3 mm to 0,4 mm small while their male versions are around half the length.

A magnifying glass or microscope can be used to see the mites. The mites we are talking about can survive quite nicely in 20 C, however, they are not able to actually move around. They crawl, since that are unable to jump or fly. This crawling can be really disconcerting and painful sometimes, as they would feed on the blood and flesh of the host to be able to lay eggs.

Scabies is something that can be passed on to another person through skin on skin contact. However, it would need a very close person-to-person interaction; therefore, scabies cannot be transmitted through shaking hands or hanging ones coat next to a coat that has an infected owner. Sexual physical contact could transmit the disease. Scabies, another sexually transmitted disease, is common among young people who are sexually active.

Scabies are found in various places. Not only can they be found in areas easily seen by others like the wrists, back of elbows, knees, and feet, but they can also be found between fingers, on waists, in armpit folds, around nipples, on buttocks, and in the genital area. Scabies appear on the head, face, neck, palms and soles of the feet of infants and young children. One's daily routine can be inconvenienced with mites so get rid of them quickly.

Natural scabies treatment with scabicide drugs is the best method. Permethrin and ivermectin are used to treat scabies. Permethrin is the best scabies treatment; it is applied everywhere but your head and you wash it off in 8 hours. Ivermectin, an oral anti-parasitic medication, is recommended to treat crusted scabies.

Other alternate medications that can be used as scabies treatment are lindane, crotamiton, sulfur preparations, and antihistamines. Lindane is like permethrin, which is applied in the same manner, however, it can cause seizure if it is applied in a very irritated or wet skin. Although you can treat scabies in the most traditional way by using a cream ( sulfur mixed in petrolatum ), try using cortamiton, because it is both a lotion and a cream. Antihistamines just relieves the itching.

The only way treatment of scabies will work is if it is administered to every single infected person so that there is no chance of people reinfecting each other. Disinfect household items such as linens, bed clothes, furniture, clothing, rugs, etc. as the mites die quickly without human hosts.
